In March 2013, the final and complete ban on the sale of finished products containing ingredients tested on animals for cosmetic ends outside the European community came into force in EU countries.

KIKO is committed to following the progress within both the Italian and European cosmetics industries in terms of research into experiments to replace the toxicology tests performed on animals to protect the safety of consumers.

KIKO MILANO has always been firmly committed to ensuring the highest levels of quality, safety and effectiveness for every single product and all the ingredients used. Subsequently, all KIKO MILANO products have been developed in compliance with EU and USA-FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and all the regulation of the countires in which KIKO is selling.

KIKO MILANO is able to ensure the safety and effectiveness of its products through specific clinical tests, carried out both in vitro or in vivo on samples of volunteers under medical supervision.

KIKO MILANO formulas are subject to a variety of dermatological , non-comedogenicity, ophthalmological, SPF UVB and UVA tests depending on their intended use, according to particularly thorough scientific protocols in terms of the parameters measured and duration.

The entire KIKO make-up range, alongside our skin care and body products, are dermatological tested under the control of a Medical Doctor.

KIKO MILANO is constantly committed to researching the best possible products in terms of formula and packaging. Our formulas are in high percentage MADE IN ITALY and EU.

Some products, such as nail polishes and pencils, are respectively made in France and Germany, others in Japan (manicure items) and others in Korea (masks time face), as indicated on the packaging in compliance with legal standards.

All formulas are subject to meticulous legislative assessments and clinical tests. KIKO MILANO currently only uses Asian countries for the manufacture of some accessories, since production is more specialized in these nations; the quality of these products is monitored directly by KIKO MILANO.

European Community Directives establish that if the stability of a cosmetic product exceeds 30 months, it is not mandatory to display an expiry date: this is the case for all KIKO MILANO products.

For all Countries where it is required by law, the expiration date is displayed.

It is however necessary to indicate the PAO (Period After Opening), i.e. the duration - expressed in months - of the product following its opening. This indication is displayed on all our products, with the exception of single-use and pressurized products, as required by law.

The PAO (Period After Opening) is indicated with the same symbol in all European Union countries: an open jar displaying the useful lifespan in months - in figures and followed by the letter M - of the product after opening. The symbol is displayed on both the main container (in direct contact with the cosmetic) and, where present, on the second container (outer packaging).

Single-use products, products packaged so as to not come into contact with the external environment (such as sprays), and products with formulas boasting long-lasting properties without risk of deterioration over time, are exempt from the PAO indication.

The state of pregnancy and post-pregnancy makes the skin more sensitive and delicate. However, this doesn't imply giving up makeup or skincare products; it's just essential to carefully choose products based on the new needs of your skin. If in doubt, we recommend consulting your doctor.

Cosmetic products are developed and made to last the time necessary for their effective and safe use. Their duration, before and after opening, is in fact verified by means of specific tests.

In order to ensure the proper preservation of your cosmetic products, we recommend following these simple indications:

• Always read the label, pay attention to the precautions for use and product preservation.
• Write the date of opening on the product container and respect the expiry date or the maximum period of use after opening.
• Do not leave cosmetics in direct sunlight, close to sources of heat or in excessively hot environments (e.g. the car in the summer), they are best kept in cool places, but not in the freezer.
• Do not store cosmetics in dirty or dusty environments.
• Use sun protection products for one season only.
• Do not dilute or mix cosmetics with other products, unless expressly stated in the instructions.

The entire range of KIKO products, including limited-edition collections, is manufactured in compliance with the highest possible quality standards. The formulas used are highly technological and innovative and the premium-quality ingredients are permitted by current Cosmetics Legislation. Rigorous clinical tests determine their complete safety before they are marketed. Moreover, the quality controls performed on each and every item.

However, certain individuals may not tolerate particular ingredients contained in cosmetic products; we therefore recommend that you show the list of ingredients to your dermatologist. You can find a full and comprehensive ingredients list on all of our products.

The term “natural product” has no legal value and is usually used to indicate a series of products distributed through specific channels (e.g. herbalists) with a strong “botanical” connotation and a focus on the plant-based origin of the main ingredients. Our products contain the latest-generation, premium-quality ingredients derived from nature, biotechnology and synthesis, developed to optimize the performance of the product and ensure the best possible result.

To safely use your cosmetics, we recommend observing the following indications:

- Always thoroughly wash hands before applying cosmetics

- Ensure that all applicators are clean before using them, it is good practice to wash and replace brushes and sponges at least once a week

- Each cosmetic product is intended for personal use: sharing products may lead to the transmission of infections

- In particular, always use clean applicators and try products on the back of your hand when testing products in store

- Always securely replace container lids/caps immediately after use

- Keep cosmetic products away from sources of heat and direct sunlight: light and heat may reduce the effectiveness of the preservatives

- Do not leave cosmetics in the car, the external temperatures may compromise the integrity of the product

- Do not use cosmetics if you are suffering from conjunctivitis

- Remove products from the skin if you suspect that they have caused irritation of any kind

- Do not add water or other diluents to any cosmetic product, unless the label expressly states this. The addition of non-indicated ingredients could contaminate the product with bacteria and dilute the preservatives, reducing the level of protection from bacteria

- Do not add acetone or other solvents to nail polishes, since this may cause the separation of the formula or unknown reactions

- Dispose of products if the colour, consistency or smell change

- Do not apply products to the eye contour unless they are expressly indicated for use in this delicate area

- Pay attention not to scratch the cornea when using mascara wands. Should this happen, do not take the situation lightly as it could lead to an infection and corneal ulcers. Put simply, mascara should be applied calmly and not in the car, on the bus, train, plane etc.

- When sleeping, mascara may get into the eye and cause itching and redness. Always ensure that you have fully removed make-up before going to bed
